The status of the Vancouver Canucks' captain is up in the air.
Defenceman Quinn Hughes is a game-time decision against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday (Sportsnet and Sportsnet+, 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT), Sportsnet's Dan Murphy reported.
Hughes, who is listed as day-to-day, missed Thursday's practice but was on the ice at the team's optional skate on Friday.
The 26-year-old defenceman has already missed four games this season with a lower-body injury. He briefly exited Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets after suffering an upper-body injury while taking a penalty, but did return.
In 14 games on the season, the blue liner has one goal and 12 assists. The Canucks, however, sit second-last in the Pacific Division at 8-9-1 for 17 points.
Vancouver will once again turn to Kevin Lankinen in net on Friday with starting netminder Thatcher Demko out two to three weeks.
Demko was placed on injured reserve by the team on Friday. Defenceman Victor Mancini was activated from IR in a corresponding move.
